Wow, what an amazing tandem the Moustache is.

The twin battery system coupled with Bosch's top of the range motor is incredible. The range of course will vary from one team to another, but I challenge you to drain both batteries on a ride.

The Performance CX motor is located at the rear allowing the pedals to stay in sync, which is probably more important off road than on.

Moustache call it a smiling machine, come and try it you will soon see why.

This tandem is 257cm long with both wheels in and 222cm long with the front wheel out.

Brilliant Tandem

The machine is simply amazing. We have had a mountain bike tandem for 20 years. This one allows us to go much further, much faster, with more climbs, and have more fun. We are doing over 30 technical off-road miles in the dales and using half the battery, even in eMTB mode. The only problem is, when you test ride one at JDs, you will want one.

A tale of two tandems.

This is a tale of two tandems and the incredible customer service from JD Tandems. Our team has 35 years experience on tandems. But following two strokes (captain) and two hip replacements (stoker/rear Admiral) the time was right to have some assistance as our mileage reduced and serious hill climbing became a memory. Two Moustache tandems The TRK (road) and the VTT (Off road) – almost identical – but not quite. The differences being, tyres, mudguards, lights. The frame and all the other key components are identical. Our team are experienced tandem riders and actually wanted the TRK road version but as it turned out this was not available, so, having ridden the off road version at JDT decided that a different rear rack with a solid platform and the Mtb front mudguard supplied would suffice to keep the worst of the water off us, Given we rarely ride in rain it seemed a reasonable plan. JD tandems swapped the tyres to Road tyres, put on a none standard rack and an adjustable stoker extension and traditional stoker bars. Within days of getting the tandem home our area was hit by floods of biblical proportions and it became immediately obvious that full mudguards would be required. JD Tandems were contacted and they managed to source a full set of mudguards from Moustache (and rack – the rack is part of the mudguard system) and post them to us. This was just as well as we were hit by floods again three months later. I fitted the mudguards myself but left the none standard rack on as it is ‘two tier’ and allowed a dog basket or top bag as well as panniers. Other changes over the last year have been: 1. Various front bars as the originals were far too wide. I tried back swept (Jones’ style) bars but ended up putting the Moustache bars back on but narrowing them. (The original bars were too wide to even get through the ‘A’ frames on many trails.) 2. Relocated the rear bottle cage to underneath the stokers bar stem 3. Both Saddles changed to sprung Brooks B67 leather saddles 4. The tyres remain the same as the TRK model 5. The mudguards are now the same as the TRK model. 6. I have installed Tannus Armour inserts in the tyres without a problem or issue In essence we now have the TRK version (without lights) we originally wanted and is superb. The bike is big. With a Mtb heritage, the bottom bracket is high and manoeuvering the bike when stationary can feel like maneuvering a motorbike to start with but it becomes second nature. It is comfy beyond belief. The mileage on one charge is phenomenal – easily 100 miles even in varied terrain. The bike rides very well even without assistance. Without this bike I do not think we would have ridden this year but as it has turned with regular cycling it has improved my stokers hips and we can ride 50 miles in hilly terrain without problem. There have been no real problems with the tandem – just one broken spoke sorted at my LBS and a squeaky rear Suntour NCX seatpost which I serviced myself from a YouTube video on the subject. I have found the Kiox control box and Bosch phone App a disappointment so still use my Garmin computer in Tandem (so to speak!) The Kiox stats are however, interesting. I would like to thanks JD Tandems for their patience, assistance and willingness to go the extra mile to make sure this customer got exactly the product we wanted. 10/10 for JDT.
