The Tour is built with the serious tourist in mind.

It is finished with the most serviceable hubs on the market, really puncture resistant 700c Schwalbe tyres, Brooks leather touring saddles designed for distance riding and Surly Nice pannier racks front & rear.

Assembled in North Yorkshire, and finished with top quality components the Tour makes a super expedition tandem, whether riding in the UK or abroad.

48-spoke wheels are fitted as standard, and registering the Tubus racks extends their guarantee to 30 years.

Disc brake front fork with corresponding disc brake & 203mm rotor fitted as standard.

Very Satisfactory.

Having never ridden a tandem or even bothering to test ride one. We sent our dimensions and specifications to JD Tandems, who were brilliant in answering questions and sizing up the tandem for us and offering advice. Being a bit of a retro grouch "we" wanted gevenalle friction shifters/brake levers and a compact handlebar setup which JD tandems were happy to fit. (If I'd posted them up to them) As they wanted to test ride the tandem before posting down, which took a quick week from order to build to posting. As it's a tourer with bullet proof wheels, it is rather heavy so we've hardly ever used the top chain ring and have changed the rear cassette so we have about 18 gear inches on the back for those steep sections.... (But needing more practice in hill starts) The brakes are very satisfactory although you can get hand ache on long steep descents from pulling on cable operated brakes (so maybe hydraulics would be better? But they were not in our budget) "we" haven't needed to try the 3rd brake but I think I'd prefer having the lever for that on the top of the handle bar (like on a mountain bike) rather than at the end of the handlebars as a friction brake (in my imaginary descents being up in the Alps and I also haven't ridden any other tandems to compare). The Bicycle is a thing of beauty to look on and is very well designed with its leather bar tape and brooks saddles to finish it off. (Once the stokers saddle is broken in they find it very comfortable when on a cane creek thud buster) Gear changing is smooth (because of the gevenalle shifters so no real need to worry about cable stretch and losing indexing) And all components are of good quality and we are "very pleased" and cannot find any fault with the bicycle at all. 2 very satisfied customers. Road test Feeback

Having been brought to tandem riding, following a purchase of a Pashley tandem, from a second hand shop for £170, we found it a nice way to gain some fitness together, rather than purchasing a gym membership. We opted for the Velocity tandem - what more can one say - the tandem is a dream to ride, handles well in both wet & dry conditions, and is super quiet, unlike our previous 1970's one. There are no improvements that I could suggest, that JD Tandems have not considered in the build of this tandem. A highly recommended purchase from beginners to someone who wants to go everywhere on it, in style.
