Review of the ORBIT Pegasus Pro Tandem
Submitted by: Jimmy Reid (31st May 10)
We took delivery of our Pegasus Pro in the 1st week of May as promised when we ordered. We have yet to get out on an all day trip but have had several 30 – 50 mile jaunts and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. We now have seats and stoker bar positions tweaked to suit us perfectly and are revelling in the togetherness that only a tandem can produce for cyclists of differing strengths.

For 12 yrs we had ridden a Dawes Galaxy tandem. The biggest differences we note are:
1) Riding position. I am more comfortable and Chris claims to have much more room and comfort on the back.
2)Uphill performance. Without a hub brake to lug up every incline The Pegasus Pro does indeed feel more like a winged steed than we were used to.
3) Control. The STI shifters mean that if the situation arises where you have do things quickly, then you can brake hard and simultaneously downshift in preparation for taking off again. All the while feeling as though you are in control.
4) Comfort. The Kinesium double butted frame gives a relaxed, comfortable ride like good old double butted chromalloy steel. Unlike the much harsher ride provided by the aluminium framed competitor we tried.
When we had a test ride in the middle of April Jamie (at JD’s) claimed the Pegasus would be a “completely different experience”. Long before we reached Bolton Abbey we had to agree with him. Since taking delivery of our own Orbit we have been over the moon several times and are looking forward to a summer of long dry evenings and similar weekends.
If you are thinking about buying, I would recomend the try before you buy scheme they operate at J D Cycles. It gives the opportunity to see exactly what you are getting as well as ask all the questions you need answered. They are a friendly and helpful bunch. We made the trip from Glasgow and rode two machines over two days. It really helped cement our decision.
